Obi-Wan Kenobi series lands a director… and a possible returning face

October 8th, 2019 by Geralt of Australia Comments

Deborah Chow has been named as the exclusive director for the series everyone’s been waiting for, our lord and savior, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

With Ewan McGregor set to reprise his role as Jedi Master Kenobi, we’re set to see what happened eight years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, this will place it a year before the events in the Solo movie and could possibly also tie into the rumored Crimson Dawn/Darth Maul TV series (Yes please!).

So let’s take a look at this new director then, Deborah Chow.

Now even though you may have never heard of her, I can guarantee you’ve heard of her work, she’s directed episodes in shows like Fear the Walking Dead and American Gods, and then for Disney there’s Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and John Favreau’s upcoming The Mandalorian.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has had this to say on the appointment of the new director: “We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”

Well, hey if they’re happy with her then so am I, John Favreau hasn’t done anything wrong yet in my eyes and I doubt he ever will, but I guess we still have to wait and see. Stay tuned for more news on the upcoming feature and stay nerdy people.

In related news, it seems that Joel Edgerton may be returning to his Star Wars Episode III role was Owen Lars, Luke’s Uncle,

Actor Josh Horowtiz tweeted a few days ago: “Caught up with Joel Edgerton today. I have almost no doubt based on his coy evasiveness that he will be in the Obi Wan Disney+ series. I’ve seen many an actor playfully evade. I’m placing a big bet that Owen will be back.”

It would make sense that Owen would pop up in the continuing adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi, so I’d say this is likely a safe bet.
