Rick Famuyiwa says The Mandalorian title isn’t just about Din Djarin

April 8th, 2023 by Marc Comments

One of the biggest complaints we’ve heard online about recent episodes of The Mandalorian is that Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, seems to no longer be the show’s focus, with characters like Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) now becoming the focus of the show.

Now, personally, I have thought this was daft as The Mandalorian in the title could be Din, Bo or maybe Boba Fett or even Grogu, that’s the point of the show to me, personally.

And it looks like I was right.

In a new interview, executive producer and director Rick Famuyiwa addressed this issue and confirms what I – and others suspected – that it’s not just about Din: “I think that’s been interesting as we’ve been on the journey of the show, and now that we’re at this point, is that, what does that title mean?

“I think now with Bo possessing the Darksaber, I know that there was a lot of expectations that might have shifted both in terms of what it meant for Din Djarin, but also for Bo and what does it mean?” Famuyiwa said.

“Who is the Mandalorian at this point? And so I think it could be anyone. And I think that’s what they’re trying to define in many ways, is what does that mean to be Mandalorian?”

I love this idea, at the end of the day The Mandalorian would be like calling Breaking Bad The Earthling, it could be about many characters in the show; from the beginning, I believed the show’s title was a reference to Grogu who will become a Mandalorian down the line but it shows that The Mandalorian isn’t a person, it’s a collective and I’m here for it all.
