Get ready for the new daily show

Robert Rodriguez and Sophia Vergara developing female-led Zorro show

It looks like Zorro is set for a gender swap as NBC is developing a new take on the legend of the masked hero.

The show is being developed by, among others, director Robert Rodriguez, who was at one point set to direct The Mask of Zorro – he even was the one who cast Antonio Banderas – but had to leave, so it seems he’s finally getting involved in the vigilante story. It is also being developed by Modern Family star Sofia Vergara and, if I had my way, I’d have her in the mask and cape.

The series, co-written by brother and sister Robert and Rebecca Rodriguez, will be directed by Rebecca and “centers on Sola Dominguez, an underground artist who fights for social justice as contemporary version of the mythical Zorro. Her life is threatened by several criminal organizations after she exposes them.”

With Rodriquez and Vergara behind this, I would have hopes that this is more than just lazy ‘put a woman in the role’ type of deal.

What say you all? Would you be excited for a female Zorro?
