With Star Wars: Rebels season 2 wrapping up this week – it wraps this weekend here in the UK – it’s a pretty good time to cover this new rumour about the show’s future.

Now, we have to consider this a BIG rumour for now but reports are saying that the show will wrap at the end of Season 3. Which is a bit annoying.

Apparently the next season will lead into Star Wars: Rogue One and the original trilogy, and Rogue One may well fit into season 3 in some way too. The inclusion of Gary Whitta, who was the first screenwriter on Rogue One, to write for Rebels Season 3m would certainly tie into this rumour.

After the end of the third season, which we’re hearing will see Billy Dee Williams return as Lando and will feature a certain Grand Admiral Thrawn, the story of the Rebels characters – we have to assume some of them at least will survive) – will be continued in a series of straight to boy-ray/digital download titles movies focusing on them. This could be great!

However, we are also hearing that it will end but lead into a new series. There’s not much on when it’ll be set in the new Star Wars canon but we’re guessing something post Return of the Jedi and pre-The Force Awakens.

Remember, Producer Dave Filoni has said before that he knows the end of the Rebels story already, so there may be something to this…

Would you like to see home release movies rather than weekly doses of Rebels?

Let us know what you think…
