Are you ready to believe all over again?
It looks like The X-Files is coming back with a modern makeover.
Five years after the return of Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) ended , it looks like we’re about to delve into he supernatural all over again, this time under the tutelage of Black Panther’s Ryan Coggler.
In a new interview, series creator Chris Carter spoke about the new take on the popular series: “I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”
While diverse casting is something of a buzz term these days, having Coggler overseeing the return of The X-Files should be an exciting premise… if it happens.
And that’s all we know so far. No word on if this is a sequel, a reboot, a remake or what – though we’d love to see Mulder and Scully return to hand the reigns over to a new team of investigators and true-believers. Though we fear it may go the same road as the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series we heard so much about a couple of years ago.
On a related note, do you recall the X-Files: Albuquerque animated series? When it was announced in 2020, the word was it “will not revolve around David Duchovny‘s Mulder and Gillian Anderson‘s Scully. Rather, the potential series will centre around an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.”
So, that’s not happening anymore; no reason has been given why but it’s likely because of this new direction they’re going with Coogler.
