SDCC 2017: BREAKING The Krypton TV series will feature Brainiac, time travel and a lot of DC characters

July 22nd, 2017 by Marc Comments

The latest TV series for DC is Krypton which, we thought until today, was a very standalone adventure as it was set far, far in Superman’s past.

But, while that is essentially true, it seems that it will be a much bigger affair that starts in the ‘present day’ of the DC universe.

Speaking at SDCC today, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns revealed that it will feature a conspiracy to stop Superman from ever becoming the hero he is. A sort of Terminator in the DC Universe if you will.

It was implied that Brainiac would be at the centre of this story and he may be trying to do it by killing Seg-El, who is the grandfather of Superman.

But that’s not all.

It will be populated by familiar characters from the modern DC universe: “You see a Black Mercy in the pilot, you’ll see a lot of DC characters in this,” Johns said.

It was also mentioned that Adam Strange would fit into the story.

Suddenly we’re more excited for this than we were…

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, “The Halcyon”) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Based on DC characters, KRYPTON is from Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S.Goyer (“Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “The Dark Knight” trilogy) through his Phantom Four banner. Damian Kindler (“Sleepy Hollow”) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.

In addition to Cuffe, KRYPTON stars Georgina Campbell (“Broadchurch”), ElliotCowan (“Da Vinci’s Demons”), Ann Ogbomo (“World War Z”), Rasmus Hardiker(“Your Highness”), Wallis Day (“Will”), Aaron Pierre (“Tennison”) with IanMcElhinney (“Game of Thrones”).

The pilot teleplay was written by Goyer and Kindler, from a story by Ian Goldberg (“Once Upon a Time,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) & Goyer, withColm McCarthy (“She Who Brings Gifts,” “Peaky Blinders”) serving as director and co-executive producer. KRYPTON is based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
