SDCC 2017: WATCH: New trailer for Star Trek: Discovery PLUS Spock has a sister?!

July 22nd, 2017 by Marc Comments

A new trailer for Star Trek Discovery was revealed at SDCC and it features loads of cool stuff… like Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd!

Anyway, also revealed at SDCC was something that Trek fans are having weird feelings about: Spock has a sister.

Whaaaaaaaaat?

Yup, turns out that Sonequa Martin-Green’s character Michael Burnham is the daughter of Spock’s mother, Amanda. His father, Sarek, is her surrogate dad.

Oh, and she too was raised on Vulcan.

Fans obviously looked a bit puzzled at the con and Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman reassured them: “We’re aware. You’ll see where it’s going, but we are staying consistent with canon.”

Huh. Didn’t see that coming.

Are you a Trek fan? What say you to this news? Let us know…

Sonequa Martin-Green (“First Officer Michael Burnham”), Jason Isaacs(“Captain Gabriel Lorca”), Doug Jones (“Lt. Saru”), Shazad Latif (“Lt. Ash Tyler”), Mary Wiseman (“Cadet Sylvia Tilly”), Anthony Rapp (“Lt. Paul Stamets”), James Frain (“Ambassador Sarek”), and Rainn Wilson as Harry Mudd rounds out the cast.

The series will premiere on the CBS Television Network Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service, and will be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space channel and OTT service CraveTV.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
