#SDCC2019 WATCH: New looks at The Expanse Season 4

July 20th, 2019 by Andrew Comments

More news from San-Diego Comic Con this weekend, this time for the science-fiction TV series The Expanse.

Based on a series of books by James S A Corey, the show is set in the near future where mankind has begun to reach for the stars with somewhat limited results, only having reached the outer limits of our own solar system. It follows a rag-tag group of people including mining vessel officer James Holden (Steven Strait) and station security officer Joe Miller (Thomas Jane) caught in the middle of tensions building between Earth, Mars and those who inhabit areas of the asteroid belts (known as ‘Belters’). As they continue to fight over previous resources with the risk of war, things go from bad to worse when a powerful ‘protomolecule’ of unknown origin is found in the solar system.

If you’re not already aware of the books or the show (it started out on the Syfy cable channel – to the surprise of many as it was actually good and not just another Sharknado movie), I would describe it simply as Battlestar Galactica meets Game Of Thrones. Yes, it really is that level of quality a show. Part of what makes it so good is that showrunners Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are actually the writers of the books, which were published under as pseudonym.

Fans were thrown a curve ball last year when after three seasons Syfy cancelled the show, but launched a huge campaign to save it including a banner flown over the head offices of Amazon, which was successful as announced shortly thereafter by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in May of 2018.

Now we have not only confirmation on when the fourth season will be released, but also our first footage of the new season, released at SDCC, and also online, you can see the footage here, which ends with the confirmation that the season will be released on Amazon Prime on December 13th, 2019.

Seasons 1-3 are currently available on Amazon Prime, so you’ve got no reason why not to be caught up!
