Showrunner Marc Guggenheim talks possibility of Titans series crossing into The CW’s DC world

While we’re all waiting for our first look at the Teen Titans live-action series, Titans, we’ve been wondering, as we do, if perhaps it will find its way in to the ever growing CW DC TV universe.

Of course, the reason we ponder is two-fold: firstly, we just love connectivity – the idea that all these shows take place in one big world really floats our boat.

Secondly, Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim is also behind the Titans series, so despite it being part of DC’s news streaming service and not The CW, there is definite connective tissue there.

So, at ACE Comic Con Long Island, a fan mentioned to Guggenheim about Bruce Wayne recently being confirmed as existing in the Arrow-verse (here) and if this meant Titans could crossover since it features Dick Grayson/Robin.

“Great question [but] above my pay grade,” Guggenheim replied.

“I will say this, the one thing I’ve learned is ‘never say never.’ I could not begin to tell you how often we say to each other, ‘We never thought any of this was going to happen. We never thought we’d see all these characters. We never thought there’d be a universe.’

“So, never say never, but in terms of which characters be on which shows, what’s part of the universe, above my paygrade and probably that’s a good thing.”

This is interesting too because Bruce Wayne is a big character in the Gotham TV series too, meaning Batman, as seems to be the case in comics and movies too, is a link between everything… however it would mean that Gotham is a prequel series to Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow etc.

But one character in particular seemed to come up at the panel (well, apart from Bruce Wayne), and that was Deathstroke – played by Manu Bennett in Arrow.

Deathstroke made his debut as a Teen Titans villain in the comics, so could Bennett be a link between shows?

“There’s been no discussion about that,” Bennett said at the panel, “and I don’t know. The power’s in the pen, that’s all I can say about that. I really have no idea. The power’s in the pen, and in the audience saying what they want.”

We know that with The CW having Black Lightning coming next year and having brought Constantine and Supergirl into its TV universe, then anything is possible. We also know that having the Titans meet Arrow, Flash and everyone else would be something very special indeed.

Thoughts? Let’s hear ’em…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
