So, in last week’s episode of Black Lightning we got more name drops of characters from the wider ‘Arrowverse’ of The CW’s DC TV shows… this time it was in the form of Supergirl and Vixen.
This is far from the first time we’ve had this sort of thing happen, despite the belief that the show does not exist in the same world as Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow (here and here).
However, the man who started it all on screen, Arrow/Oliver Queen himself, Stephen Amell, has come out and said that the inevitable Arrow/Black Lightning crossover is going to happen eventually.
Talking at Awesome Con at the weekend, Amell blew open the doors on this one: “Everyone pretends like we’re not going to eventually cross over with Black Lightning but we’re probably gonna cross over with Black Lightning because that’s just the way that the world works.
“I met Cress properly, I think, for the first time yesterday. I think maybe we had met incidentally at upfronts or something like that and I was a big fan of his from 90210 when he kind of dated Donna — it’s a true story.”
It makes us wonder if, with the announcement that The CW has renewed all the DC shows just yesterday (here), maybe, just maybe, we might see it happen later this year when the shows do their now annual massive crossover event. After all, this year it’s likely John Constantine will be in there too.
In related news, Amell also said he wants to see Batman join the Arrowverse… but not as the hero of the story, saying he and Batman would not see eye-to-eye: “Everyone is the hero of their own story,” the actor said.
It seems he was hinting that he and Batman, rather than be enemies, would go more head-to-head on how to fight crime… in all honesty, we’d love to see it!
Stephen would like Bruce Wayne to be the villain. “Everyone is the hero of their own story” and Oliver is hero of #Arrow. Thinks he and Bruce would argue over how to do things. #AwesomeCon

Which curiously brings us to this little piece of news…
Arrow costume designer Andy Poon recently shared his concept for how Batman Beyond AKA Terry McGinnis would look in the Arrowverse, even going so far as to say he plans on creating the suit for real (for personal use).
But we had a thought. With McGinnis picking up the mantle of the bat after Bruce Wayne steps down – explaining his name change to Batman of the Future in the UK, wouldn’t he be a perfect fit for the Time Travelling Legends of Tomorrow?
Imagine them meeting Batman in the future and bringing him back and having him interact with Flash, Arrow, Supergirl… wouldn’t that rock? We do know Bruce Wayne exists in the world of Arrow, after all. Also, it would be a great way for The CW to get around DC’s seeming terror at letting Batman appear on TV.
Could Poon be hinting at a future appearance of the character? Probably not, but with Legends getting a new season later this year and all the Arrowverse shows going from strength to strength, we’re not ruling anything out anymore. We DID get Superman, after all.
