Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow to return for The Flash’s final season

January 8th, 2023 by Marc Comments

We all know that the final season of The Flash series starring Grant Gustin kicks off next month but it looks like they’re really going to go in style with a host of returning faces… including the man who started the whole Arrowverse, Stephen Amell.

Amell’s Oliver Queen kicked off the Arrowverse in 2012 before being joined by The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batgirl, Black Lightning, Constantine, Superman & Lois, Stargirl, Naomi and several animated adventures… to this day, it’s still the biggest onscreen universe as it crossed over with the past movies, animated shows, TV shows and comics, it really was a massive achievement (and yes, it’s bigger than the MCU still).

Amell retired the green hood in 2020 and we thought he was done, but he’s coming back one last time for the final series of The Flash and, even though we still have Gotham Knight coming, I think we all know that The Flash wrapping is more or less the end of the Arrowverse.

Continues after trailer:

Amell will appear as Queen in The Flash episode 909 along with other returning stars David Ramsey (John Diggle aka Spartan), Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West/Kid Flash) and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork).

Executive producer Eric Wallace said of Amell’s return: “As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen.

“After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen AKA Flash [played by Grant Gustin]on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash. The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say “thank you” to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills and tears.”

In all honesty, the last time I watched any of the Arrowerse shows was way back in 2019.2020 when we had the massive Crisis on Infinite Earths event as by that stage the shows had all become, well, pretty bad. But I never stopped being very, very impressed with the scope of the shows and the work done by all involved to make it a massive universe that encompassed the entire DC universe.

And yes, I will likely tune in for Amell’s last appearance.

Thoughts?
