It looks like CBS All Access’ ten-hour adaptation of Stephin King’s masterwork, The Stand, has found its leader for the tribes of good and evil.
Randall Flagg, the demon who comes to make his domain in Las Vegas in the tale will be played by True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård, while leading the forces for good as Mother Abigail will be star Whoopi Goldberg.
Skarsgård would not in a million years have entered my head as Flagg, having been played in the original The Stand series by actor Jamey Sheridan and then more recently by Mattew McConaughey in The Dark Tower – Flagg is a recurring force for evil in King’s universe going by many names but always being the same character.
Director/writer Josh Boone’s limited series will also – now confirmed – star Jovan Adepo as musician Larry Underwood, Owen Teague as Harold Lauder, Brad William Henke as Tom Cullen and Daniel Sunjata as Cobb.
James Marsden will lead the cast as Stu Redmond while Amber Heard, Odessa Young and Henry Zaga will fill the cast out.
That’s one hell of a cast for one hell of a story… here’s hoping it can deliver on its promise.
