Taika Waititi to direct first episode of Time Bandits TV series

April 16th, 2019 by Marc Comments

If there’s anything I love, it’s some British 80s horror/sci-fi comedy and nothing else in the history of film has ever felt like one in particular… Time Bandits.

The Terry Gilliam-directed movie follows the time-traveling adventures of an 11-year-old history buff named Kevin who, one night, stumbles on six dwarfs who emerge from his closet. They are former workers of the Supreme Being who have stolen a map that charts all the holes in the space-time fabric, using it to hop from one historical era to the next in order to steal riches.

It’s every bit as crazy and wonderful as it sounds and it stars legends such as David Warner, Sean Connery, John Cleese and many more is roles that, frankly, make no sense.

Now the movie has been picked up as a TV series by Apple and the pilot will be co-written and directed by Thor: Ragnarok and What We Do In The Shadows Taika Waititi.

I doubt very much that the series will capture the pure madness of the 1981 movie but Waititi can certainly do weird humour and sci-fi, so it has potential to be good… just how good? Well, that remains to be seen.

What say you all?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
