CW’s new live action ‘Archie’ show has recently made some more casting. Following on from the casting of K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Ashley Murray as Josie, Lili Reinhart as Cheryl and Madeline Petsch as Cherry Blossom, two new cast members have joined the show.
Casey Cott has been cast as the Kevin Keller, the first openly gay character to appear in the Archie comics. The announcement was made by Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics Publications, who Tweeted “”And last but certainly not least–KEVIN KELLER (@CaseyCott) joins the ever-expanding Riverdale universe!!”
Keller became successful almost instantly, with the comic selling out and forcing Archie Comics to reprint, something they have never done before. He also received his own title between 2012 and 2014.
The second casting news is of newcomer actor Camila Mendes who has been cast as Veronica Lodge.
Veronica is described as “a silver-tongued high school sophomore who returns to Riverdale from New York, eager to reinvent herself after a scandal involving her father.”
Riverdale will center around the core characters of Archie, along with a wide range of others who appeared in the comics, including Archies rival, Reggie Mantle and his best friend Jughead Jones.
Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions will produce the the one-hour drama, with Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa writing the main plot.
The show is set for release later this year.
