Ahead of the show’s forth season, we now know that Agents of SHIELD will be getting a new, as yet unnamed Director of SHIELD, but what we do know is that he’ll be played by current Batman voice actor Jason O’Mara.

Deadline reported the news, but were thin on the details about just who the character actually is; they did say that his “Marvel roots go back to the 1940s,” which has us throwing wild speculations round like wildfire.

Speaking on the character’s introduction, Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb said “Bringing Jason into the mix as the New Director of SHIELD forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency.”

He continued, “Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”

Fans of animated comic flicks will best know O’Mara for his work as Batman, having voiced the Dark Knight in seven DC animated films, including Batman vs Robin, Batman: Bad Blood and the upcoming Justice League Dark.

Agents of SHIELD will return on the 20th September on ABC.
