TV REVIEW: FTN reviews Power Rangers Super Megaforce: Silver Lining

April 6th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

Our new staffer Todd takes a look at the latest episode of Power Rangers Super Megaforce!

Since the arrival of the armada, and the “absence” of Robo Knight, the Rangers have been a team of five for awhile now. Would Robo Knight return? Or would a new Ranger take his place? “Silver Lining” answered that question, but raised a few more in the process.

After a few episodes dealing with some Legendary Rangers, Super Megaforce returned to the heart of the season, the armada is still out there. And with every loss, they’re getting more and more desperate. Though I’m not a fan of the Prince, he honestly had a really good idea, one that I’ve been asking for a while. Why not just send out a bunch of X-Borgs out in force and have them wreak havoc? The Prince and I apparently think alike (scary thought) and made it so.

But before the Rangers could stop the platoons, someone had already beaten them to the punch. Wave after wave came, and wave after wave were defeated before the team could get there. What was going on?

We found out finally when a new Ranger, a silver Ranger, appeared to help Rangers. Both against the X-Borgs, and a new commander. First impressions are important when it comes to Rangers, and the new silver Ranger did not disappoint. His spear/trident was amazing (and a series first I think), and his powers were off the charts. Even the Power Rangers were impressed. Yet what was most amazing, was what he said as he fought.

First off, it’s clear (from his “arrival” to his dialogue) he’s not from Earth. His planet apparently fell to the armada, and he refuses to let Earth fall too. Yet also, as he said in the end, his “vengeance” has begun. So what does he fight for? To save the people of Earth? Or to get revenge on those who destroyed his planet? This will be fun to see unfold as things proceed.

Also, as Noah and the others noted, how did he get his powers? Not just his morpher, but his Ranger key? He had to have come with it, right?

As the “to be continued” text flashed, I couldn’t help but feel bad as I wanted to know these answers. But you know you’re doing something right, if the audience can’t wait for the next episode. “Silver Lining” brought an exciting new Ranger into the fold, one with lots of potential, especially given what this season is turning into. Let’s watch and see how it goes.
