TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Agents Of Shield Season 05 Episode 06: Fun & Games

January 6th, 2018 by Todd Black 1 Comment

The problem with Agents of Shield season 05 is that despite some very intriguing storylines, it’s all meaningless at this point. We know they’ll return to the past, we know May won’t be eaten by Roaches, and many (if not all) of the characters we meet in this “future” timeline won’t exist by the time the season is over, so why get attached?

Sadly, that was a major flaw in “Fun & Games”, despite some great acting by certain characters, and some fun scenes, it was all marred by the fact that these characters won’t last much longer. What’s worse, the whole buildup of the episode seemed to be the “fight” for Quake, and yet it was relegated to the very end and led to a fun but quick ending.

The highlight of the episode was Fitz through and through. The way he acted as a Marauder (which is a Marvel group for the record) was hilarious, as we know Fitz wouldn’t act this way under any other circumstance, and yet, he totally sold it. Even Kasius was impressed. But even in the subtler moments, like his initial proposal to Simmons when she couldn’t hear him was very touching. As was her proposal to him once he “freed” them.

The rest though? Eh. I liked how we saw the “Harvest”, and why it mattered to the “running of things”. And seeing Flint developer his earth/rock powers were a cool thing, and Grill totally deserved it. But again, we’re not going to care about him in a few episodes. Same with Ben when he was killed after his “lie” was discovered. Was it sad? Sure, I guess, but again, he’s not going to exist. That goes for Tess as well, and her death really was pointless.

Furthermore, if Kasius is dead (after a very poetic stabbing from Simmons) after we finally get more backstory on his and his family, I’m honestly going to be mad. Especially if we have to now focus on his brother being the big bad for the arc.

With all sides now on a collision course, the only question now is how much longer will this arc go? I hope it ends with a significant bang, otherwise this will all be pointless.
