TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Agents of Shield Season 6 Episode 11: From The Ashes

July 27th, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

At this point in time (which sadly is close to the end of the season), Agents of Shield is now caught between two polarizing things. On the plus side is the Izel storyline, which “From The Ashes” built upon beautiful (some snags aside). And then, there’s the Not-Coulson storyline. Where just when you think they’re finally going to let go of Coulson…they cling all the tighter. Ugh.

Let’s start with the positive. I can honestly say that Izel might just be one of the best villains in Agents of Shield history. As good as Hydra, not as good as Ward, close to Eva, but she’s obtaining a level of evil that makes her much different. She’s a sadist, she’s not afraid to just hurt people to see them suffer enough so that they know not to screw with her. Admit it, when that other Shield guy was with Benson, you knew he was dead, right?

And using a beat-up Mack body to trick Yo-Yo into giving information? Brilliant. Killing Benson’s husband (from the Fear Dimension…) right in front of him? Evil!!!! Like I said, Izel rules, and her master plan is ever closer to fruition, which is exciting.

Unlike everything going on with Not-Coulson.

Seriously, I hated the twist last week that Coulson’s body is…well, Coulson’s body, and that it was created in the Fear Dimension and inhabited but a spirit being because of course it was… And yet, despite the truth about the being inside him being ever more prevalent, May wants him to be Coulson, Daisy refused to believe it…until he said some Coulson lines…and now she’s fine with him.

Again, they’re building this to where the being leaves with Izel or kills Izel or something and then Coulson somehow gets reborn. I don’t want that. That’s terrible storytelling and it lessens the death of Coulson from the (shouldn’t been series finale) season finale.

We’ll just have to see where it goes from here, the season finale is next week, and at this point, I have no idea how they’re going to play it. But I fear the worst *monolith brings fear to life*.
