TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Black Lightning Season 2 Episode 15: The Alpha

March 12th, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

Wow, I didn’t realize that next episode would be the season finale. Curious to see how they’ll tie everything together in one episode. Anyway, “The Alpha” again showed why Black Lightning is one of the best CW hero shows, because it does things that most of the other shows can’t do. Focus on a parent struggling to control two headstrong daughters who happen to have powers. Sorry Barry, but your Nora deal can’t compete with this.

The “family meeting” was very appropriate, as it was Jefferson and Lynn coming together to ensure that their children were safe, while also ensuring that they weren’t fully restricted in what they could do with their abilities. It’s fascinating how Jefferson has gone from, “Tobias must die.” to “it doesn’t change anything if we kill him”.  It shows his growth as a character.

Tobias meanwhile showed exactly why he’s a danger, because he sees the big picture and isn’t afraid to do things to help make himself strong. Like letting loose a metahuman to go and cause havoc to prove that he does have metahumans of value.

Lala’s arrival at the end was a nice twist, and him being a heat-seeking missile of sorts is very compelling. But whether they allow him to be what he needs to be in the final episode remains to be sen.

And then there’s Lynn’s boss, who’s getting very creepy, and clearly wants to show Lynn the dirt he’s got on the family. Again, with one episode left, I’m curious how this will all work out.

In the end, “The Alpha” set up a potentially great season finale. Hopefully the season ends strong.
