TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Gotham Season 03 Episode 19: All Will Be Judged

May 23rd, 2017 by Todd Black Comments

Huh, and you thought Leslie was a pain BEFORE! I’ll say this for “All Will Be Judged”, what could’ve been very run-of-the-mill in the leadup to the finale turned into something better. As some pieces were filled in, some surprises were had, and the factions that are fighting for Gotham are drawing closer to war in the grandest of scales.

Let’s start with Barnes and his return as the Executioner (yes, that’s his official name in the show). Was it the best performance? No, but it did build upon what we saw in the first half of the season, and did show that even under that armor, there is an honorable man (shown when he gave Jim his badge back), and that assault on the GCPD was pretty funny, even though it’s been done before. And him killing Katherine? Wow. Didn’t see that coming.

Speaking of which Katherine had a pretty bad series of events this episode huh? Betrayed by Gordon, her murder attempt on him failed, arrested, then STABBED BY ALFRED, and then beheaded by Barnes. Bye Katherine!

Moving on, I’m happy that the Crystal Owl got brought back into the spotlight, as it’s honestly something that got forgotten (probably intentionally) because of the Jerome arc. Now, we know that the owl had a map of all the Courts secret locations, one of which is where the virus will likely be detonated.

Going onto the Bruces, the clones fight with Selina and Alfred was pretty cool, and he once again got to show what feeling no pain can do to a person. He’s not dead yet, so you know he’s going to come back. With the real Bruce, we got to see the true goal of the Shaman, as he revealed that he does want to destroy Gotham, as well as the Court, because they apparently hired Matches Mallone to kill the Waynes…against his orders. And those “mind scenes” were all a way to make Bruce loyal to the Shaman, and be “clay” in his hands! Devious!

Speaking of which, Riddler and Penguin had a fun set of scenes, as they had to work together in order to kill each other when they got free of the Court. I hope these two and their forces have a big part to play in what’s coming.

Finally, Leslie. I’m glad she’s actually gotten some depth in her pain instead of being a one-note character like she had been after Mario’s death. Her “dream” of him, along with the meeting with Mad Hatter really cemented her pain. All the while making that ending a real shocker. I’m now interested in what happens to her.

So, what happens now? It looks like the virus is aimed to be released next episode, but the finale (in 2 parts) comes after…curious huh? I’m excited!
