TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends Of Tomorrow Season 03 Episode 16: I, Ava

March 27th, 2018 by Todd Black Comments

With the end of the season looming, Legends of Tomorrow took another big step in bringing the events of the season to a close, and while not everything worked, it was another solid episode.

Following up from the breakup of Ava and Sara, Gary came aboard the Waverider to get Sara’s help because Ava was missing. And as their investigation began, weird things started happening. First, her family was a fake, then a previously traveled to time stop was a “No Fly Zone”, and there’s the fact that Rip deleted her file a few episodes back. What was going on?

Turns out, Ava’s a clone! In the year 2213, a company decided to make the “perfect woman” and fill society will plenty of them. But, when OUR Ava found this out, she was clueless! So…she didn’t know what she was, or who she was…and now both Ava and Sara want to find Rip so they can figure out why he pulled her out of 2213.

I did appreciate how they didn’t skate around the breakup of Sara and Ava, and how they were forced to reveal their true feelings about the breakup. And both Ray and Gary had hilarious commentary, though Gary continues to be pushed a little too much in the comedy category.

Meanwhile, Mari, the modern day Vixen, received an injury while saving lives, prompting Nate, Wally, and Kuasa to try and save her by getting Amaya her totem back. This storyline wielded some unexpected fruit, including the return of the totem, Damien becoming bros with Nate, Kuasa dying trying to convince Nora to come back to the light, and more. As if that wasn’t enough, Amaya is now going to try and change her families fate, which you know won’t end well.

Finally, Zari had the “honor” of trying to teach Mick how to use the Fire Totem. Which to be honest…was kind of pointless. Yeah, it had funny moments, but it was clear that Mick had some control over the totem as he was cooking food with precision and made an enhanced version of the “pull my finger” gag. I will admit though, Zari kicking Mick’s butt with her totem was pretty cool.

In the end, “I, Ava” moved a lot of pieces into place as the season finale for Legends of Tomorrow draws closer. Let’s hope it capitalizes on the momentum.
