TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Legends Of Tomorrow Season 5 Episode 6: Mortal Khanbat

February 26th, 2020 by Todd Black Comments

Episodes like tonight are the reason I love Legends of Tomorrow, because they take what should’ve been a very standard episode with an Encore, and turn it into a hilarious experience and one that builds on the lore of the universe. Granted, not everything worked, and a contrived relationship did weigh things down, but overall it was good.

Let’s start with the good parts. Ghengis Khan is back, and he’s in Hong Kong trying to take everything over…again. I don’t know who acted as him, but he was a very compelling and chilling take on the character. He is what Vandal Savage should’ve been in season 1 of the series, but oh well.

His grand idea of conquest with taking out Prince Charles using scooters? Brilliant and so LOT, loved it. And his reason for ending up in the 1900’s was a good reference to history.

Now, as for the Charlie bits? I’m…50-50 on that. The bad 50 is her and B having a relationship that LITERALLY came out of nowhere…again. And yeah, I understand that his history was rewritten because of the Hey World incident, but this was different. LOT has a bad habit of throwing people together to see what sticks and that honestly sucks at points.

However, finding out that she was one of the original Fae sisters? That’s a game-changer, and also a continuity breaker because wasn’t she in Purgatory? So how did she end up there again? Anyway, this ramps up the danger because her sisters are now looking for her, curious…

And then, there’s Constantine. This particular storyline is very reminiscent of the one he had in the comics where he tricked the devil himself to heal him, and with the twist that it was Astra he tricked, it made for a good storyline for the most part. Trying Nora, the magical creatures and other tricks to save himself, but appealing to Astra’s remaining humanity to get the job done was great. AND, we got a tease of what Season 6 might be like via the Angels coming down and Gabriel not being all that angelic.

Also, him telling Ray to marry Nora (which is a tease to how both are going to leave the series) was wonderful as well.

However, and I must emphasize this with very clear conviction…GARY MUST DIE!!!! OH. MY. GOSH. I was literally an hour removed from having to deal with Chester in Flash (who I definitely hated tonight) and then Gary comes in and is the most annoying thing, EVER! “Can I be your flower boy?” GROW A PAIR GARY! WHAT IS HIS POINT??!?!? HE’S NOT EVEN COMPETENT AT THIS POINT IN TIME! WHY DOES HE EXIST?!?!!??!

*deep breathing*

…I feel better now, thank you for letting me rant.

In the end, “Mortal Khanbat” was a hilarious and fun twist on things while also giving us an amazing Constantine side story. I look forward to seeing where things go from here.
