TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Flash Season 03 Episode 18: Abra Kadabra

March 29th, 2017 by Todd Black Comments

With the season finale drawing ever closer, you have to wonder how long it’ll be until we find out who Savitar is. The writers threw a twist into things with the arrival of Abra Kadabra. A new so epic…the episode was named after him.

It really was a nice twist to have another villain from the future show up. To see him oh so casually drop Barry’s name upon seeing him, then recite what’s coming up in his future was very chilling, and it set up an interesting moral question once he was caught, especially when Gypsy arrived to.

For Gypsy, he was a criminal responsible for the deaths of many, including her former partner. But for Barry and crew, he knew who Savitar was, and that one piece of information could change everything. So what were they to do?

Naturally, one of them let him out, and it was back to catching him again. Though predictable, it did give Joe some good scenes. As one of the few powerless characters, it’s important for him to get some big moments, and that scene both with him and Gypsy and him and Iris showed just how much pain he’s going through knowing that his daughter is coming close to her potential death.

Not surprisingly (and still frustratingly), we still don’t know who Savitar is, as Abra Kadabra stated that he’d rather go to the grave then help Flash.

Relationships were the other big topic of the week, as Julian/Caitlin, and Cisco/Gypsy had to go through some relationship bumps. The formers was better than the latters for sure. But oh well.

I will say this, ending the “main story” with 12 minutes to spare to allow time to build up the Killer Frost rebirth was well done. And now that she’s back, the future is really in danger.

In the end “Abra Kadabra” was a solid episode with some good questions being asked. I do wish we could find out who Savitar is so we could get the twist out of the way because it’s really, REALLY getting annoying that we don’t know who he is yet.
