TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Flash Season 5 Episode 16: Failure Is An Orphan

March 13th, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

Well…that’s a new one. I was very curious to see how the Cicada saga would end, and it appears that even the mighty Eobard Thawne can’t predict everything, as a brand new Cicada has come to the fold, and she’s ticked.

If you recall the mind episode where Grace fought Nora with her own form of Cicada, I noted in my review that this might be the future that Nora was a part of. Because the Flash museum said that Cicada disappeared then reappeared. Which now we know to mean that Orland fell, and Grace took his place.

You all knew that the cure would either fail, or something else would happen. But this? This was cool. And Grace killing the doctor, the one who kept her and her father alive for so long, was very cold-blooded. And now the new Cicada (played by the amazing Sarah Carter from various shows) seems to be an even bigger threat than her uncle, and that’s terrifying.

The leadup to the showdown with the Cicadas was very well handled. And a very funny tongue-in-cheek way of showing how Barry has the ability to talk people into doing better things, which he does…and doesn’t depending on how you look at it. Anyway, Nora trying to help Barry find “the right words’ was very poetic, as it was when she wasn’t trying that helped him talk Orland off the ledge as it were.

I wasn’t sure what to feel about the Joe/Cecil sidestory, but honestly, it’s just good to see them together again (since Jesse Martin was literally out with an injury), so I’m going to let it slide.

The only question now is where they’re going to go with this storyline. Could Orland be the one to change the timeline once he sees how Grace turns out? And what is Grace’s plan for her being in the present…and how did she get to the past? We’ll find out soon I bet…
