TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews The Flash Season 7 Episode 11: Family Matters Part 2

May 26th, 2021 by Todd Black Comments

Honestly…I’m really glad this “Forces” storyline is over because by the end of this episode they were getting so cringe it was honestly really sad.

Don’t get me wrong, all the Arrowverse shows have had problems with some of their villains over time, The Flash is no different. The problem here though is that you’d think after a rather strong set of villains with both Bloodwork and Mirror Mistress that they’d know how to push things forward without getting ridiculous and yet…clearly not.

For example, Nora went goth! Because…reasons…? Hearing her talk about her death and resurrection was a good way of making her plight sympathizable and yet…they immediately turned her back into the “I’m right, you’re wrong” Nora of the last few episodes and it was REALLY annoying.

Just as annoying though was that this episode couldn’t seem to decide at times whether the Forces were good or evil. Everyone thought Nora was causing the storm and struck Cecil, and yet…it wasn’t, so was she actually trying to do the right thing? And let’s not forget Bashir and Alex going and getting that device from Iris by force to try and fight Nora…and then they just came back because “it felt different”? What?

And worst of all was Nora’s turn in which she saw a potential future where she was all alone and was sad. Which is dumb…because the Speed Force WAS alone in the universe since the dawn of time and didn’t have an avatar until Barry. Plus, you can’t make that argument that she “didn’t have her humanity” because of how she treated Barry in the past. She showed love, she showed disappointment because of Flashpoint, she was scared for him when Bloodwork came and so on and so forth. She already had these emotions and humanity before, so why claim she just “started to understand them” now?

Other cringe moments including Joe wallowing in despair (and realizing how stupid his move to leave the CCPD was…), Barry and Iris thinking they “can’t be good parents” despite literally having a season with Nora proving that they could. And then…there was Killer Frost.

Her escaping from Iron Heights to stop the other metas? Cool, that’s fine. Her doing an exaggerated fist fight with Chillblaine? Umm…ok… It basically being a foreshadowing to their hooking up (which doesn’t make sense since Chillblaine will be in jail for a long time…)…? Dumb. And then, my personal favorite, going from “life in prison to probation” after one rescue attempt was DUMB. She saved the MULTIVERSE and was still sent to prison, but she stops ONE jailbreak and all of a sudden everyone is ok with her being out? HUH?!!?!?!?

And don’t get me started on that final scene with Allegra and Chester. No. NO, NOPE!!!!!

I rarely get super frustrated with these episodes, regardless of show. Because there are always different opinions on things. But there have been a few times, especially in The Flash where episodes just were so wrong it hurt. “Hazard” from Season 4 was an example of that. And this is another. They all but threw everything at a wall and tried to see if it stuck. I DON’T…like that Impulse.
