TV REVIEWS: FTN Reviews Black Lightning Season 3 Episode 3: Agent Odell’s Pipe-Dream

October 22nd, 2019 by Todd Black Comments

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of review last week, recording didn’t work and it took me days to watch it on demand, but I’m back! And Black Lightning is still really good.

“Agent Odell’s Pipe-Dream” was a very interesting episode full of many twists and turns, including Black Lightning finally suiting up himself to take care of business. And let me tell you, that new suit looked boss, full stop.

Agent Odell was very much the MVP of the episode though, going and playing everyone while being just trustworthy enough to get them to do what they wanted. His way of handling Jennifer, Tobias, and even Jefferson was masterful.

The turning of Painkiller into the CW version of John Wick was frightening to watch in just how efficient he was. I bet the actor playing him is loving all the skills this role is giving him.

Focusing on Henderson and his struggles to maintain order amidst the chaos was good too, even if things didn’t go exactly how he wanted them to. Him crossing a line to make a life better after a life was taken shows just how good a man he is.

The only real problems’ of the episode was the somewhat rushed nature of things. Grace suddenly shows back up and Anissa says she loves her and wants to be with her? And we go from that scene to dumping the news girl? That was badly paced.

Furthermore, the three attack scenes were very confusing. Jefferson was told to get the Commandos but they thought that Jace was there. Jennifer was told to go after a base, but it was just a data farm And Painkiller cleared out a house full of bad guys, but no one but the soldiers were there. So what was he after? It’s all very confusing.

The last scenes though were perfect. Jefferson and Lynn coming home only for their family to be happy for 10 seconds that they were back and then leaving was hilarious. Again showing the family dynamic in full action. Tobias hallucinating about Black Lightning was also perfect, because who else would he blame for his predicament?

In the end, “Agent Odell’s Pipe Dream” again moved the pieces forward, and with Black Lightning now on the outside, Freeland might just get safer…or not.
