We have a cool first look at the opening credits from Netflix’s upcoming reboot of Lost in Space which has a very Star Trek feel to it, with the history of the space race told in a reflection of the hull of the Jupiter Two before we get a nice nod to the original series’ theme tune by the legendary John Williams.
It’s worth noting that the Smith family this time around aren’t a lone team heading to find a new home for humanity, but it seems they are part of a massive space program.
It also seems that Dr Smith and The Robot are no longer part of the Jupiter crew but rather are ‘discovered’ during the family’s lost adventure.
Black Sails showrunner Toby Stephens who is looking after the series has spilled some details on the series: “It’s a very clever, modern reworking of a great story,” he says.
“Lost in Space is Swiss Family Robinson in space, so it was a story that existed before Lost in Space. The fundamental story is that it’s a family that is lost in a difficult, life-threatening situation and how it challenges them and brings them closer together. That is essentially what the story of this is, it’s just the context is a lot more modern. It’s a more modern take on the ‘60s version. If you look at it now, it’s charming, but it seems so innocent. Whereas this is a version that is for our time. I’m hoping it will still have humor and humanity in it, but it has obviously gotta be for a modern audience.”
The series will be based on Irwin Allen’s iconic 60s TV series.
The Robinson family, part of a highly trained mission to establish a new colony in space, is unexpectedly pulled off course forcing them to crash land on a lost planet.
Lost in Space stars Molly Parker, Parker Posey, Toby Stephens and Ignacia Serricchio.
Lost in Space premieres April 13, 2018.
