WATCH: New Andor Special Look puts the series firmly in its Star Wars universe timeline

Ahead of its three-episode debut this Wednesday – how quickly did that time go?! – Lucasfilm has dropped a pretty cool new look at the series and its place in the Star Wars universe, particularly in regards to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

This series looks like it’s going to deliver in spades and early word is that it’s a very straight-faced thriller set in the Star Wars universe more akin to the type of shows HBO does and that it’s a massively world-building adventure. Honestly, that sounds great and I cannot wait to see the beginning of the rebellion through the eyes of normal, oppressed people.

And holy crap! Was that a lightsaber ship!?

The “Andor” series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is the creator and showrunner.

Experience the three-episode premiere September 21.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
