WATCH: Ray Park returns as Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars

April 28th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Oh, this is soooooooo good to see.

So, anyone who knows anything about Star Wars will know that British martial artist Ray Park played the sinister Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace in 1999.

He has always been close to the role and is a fan favourite in so many ways. When he returned once again to the role briefly in the unfairly maligned Solo: A Star Wars Story, fans’ hopes were raised that we could be on the verge of a Maul movie or Disney+ series but alas, as of yet, this is not to be.

However, while watching the most recent episode of The Clone Wars, The Phantom Apprentice, sharp-eyed fans may have noticed that the battle between Maul and Ahsoka seemed very, very faithful to the style of Park.

So faithful that, well, could it have been him? Well, yes, it was…

The official Star Wars channel has released a new video (below) of Park fighting fellow artist Lauren Mary Kim – who was Elektra’s stunt double in Netflix’s Daredevil – to act out the moves for an epic lightsaber battle motion-capture. Add to this the voice talents of Sam Witwer and Ashley Eckstein and we have a seriously cool Star Wars moment.

It’s great that The Clone Wars is tying together the whole Star Wars mythology in such a great way… it’s sad that it’s the end of the series in a fortnight, but we have plenty of awesome new stuff on the horizon.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars has two more episodes left, airing May 1th and May 4th

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
