WATCH: Teaser for Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, breaks the surface

We finally have our first official look at the Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, starring the awesome Linda Cardellini as Jason Voorhees’ mother, Pamela Voorhees.

The series follows single mother Pam Voorhees, who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before…

This on the day we learn that Freddy Krueger is set to return in an all-new Nightmare on Elm St (I’ll get to writing that after this: it’s here).

“It all started when that kid drowned last summer. There’s something in these woods, and all it knows how to do is kill.”

Jason Vorhees is an Evil Dead deadite! Confirmed!

The new series from A24 will have eight episodes, is set in the 1970s, which is a canon change as, in the movies, Jason drowned in 1957, and has IT: Welcome to Derry’s co-showrunner, Brad Caleb Kane, as creator and showrunner.

On taking the role, Cardinelli said: “She’s only in such a small fraction of the movies and there’s very little actually known about her, but she’s the inciting incident in some ways. She’s an important piece of the puzzle, but a relatively unknown one.”

On setting the series in the 70s, Kane said: “I wanted to touch on all the pop-culture artifacts that were tangential to the America from which these movies were born.”

That makes sense; let’s just see if he can stick the landing – though, with the talent involved, I reckon this will be a scary Halloween watch.

Crystal Lake premieres October 15th

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
