WATCH: The trailer for Michael Bay’s pirate series Black Sails

April 17th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Starz has just released the first trailer for the Michael Bay produced pirate TV series called Black Sails. The story centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island.

“Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.”

The series stars Luke Arnold as John Silver, Zack McGowan as Captain Charles Vane, Toby Stephens as a rival pirate captain to the brilliant and feared Captain Flint, Hannah New as Eleanor Guthrie, a beautiful and determined young woman who runs the smuggling operation on New Providence, and Jessica Parker Kennedy who portrays Max, a tortured young prostitute who sees the dark side of New Providence.

Neil Marshall directed the first of eight episodes that Starz ordered. The plan is to release the series sometime in 2014. I really loved Spartacus and Da Vinci’s Demons looks to be great, so I have high hopes for this.
