As Star Wars Celebration Orlando spread out over its third day there was more news to be had on the future of the franchise… and it was sweet and sour.
We got a pretty emotional trailer for Rebels season 4 which once again looks like the series is rising to the challenge, however it comes with the news that the series will end with the upcoming new series. (Cntinues after gif)
Dave Filoni, the show’s co-creator and executive producer, said at the show’s panel: “I really appreciate that love from you guys. I think I can make this story as meaningful as can be. I know what it’s like when I don’t get to end a series,” which was a reference to Clone Wars which was cancelled prematurely and which Filoni oversaw too. He also made it clear that it was his idea to call it a day after this coming season.
As for what we can expect? Well Filoni said the final season would be much more episodic than previous seasons and “is unlike anything else we’ve ever done. It’s different. A little dark, a little fun…”
Going by the tone of the trailer we can expect to be put through an emotional wringer this season and our guess is there will be death among the crew of the Ghost… although we know that Hera and Chopper make it given that they are in Rogue One. But what of the rest of the crew? Well, that’s anyone’s guess.
It’s not all bad news however as we are led to believe that Filoni did hint that a new Star Wars animated show would follow Rebels although no details were given on what it will be or when it will be set. Could it chronicle the rise of young anakin to becoming a Jedi perhaps? Or maybe follow Obi-Wan during his years on Tatooine? Or what about an old republic series? There possibilities are endless…
Check out the trailer below and note a few interesting things, firstly, Saw Guerra is back and secondly we get out first look at Thrawn’s bodyguard Rukh or Rook will appear and he’ll be voiced by Warwick Davis!
100% confirmed!! Warwick will in Star Wars Rebels! WD- “Dave Im sorry for what I did to you in London”. DF- “No your not!” pic.twitter.com/kURpQ1X0ef
