Will Riverdale and the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series crossover? Plus, first look at Kiernan Shipka in full Sabrina get-up

If, like me, you have been watching and enjoying Riverdale, The CW’s take on the classic Archie Comic books and you read this website you will hopefully be aware that there is a new reimagining of Sabrina The Teenage Witch in the works staring Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka as the eponymous Miss Spellman.

When production began the hope was that The Teenage Witch would cross over with the Riverdale gang but last week our hearts were broken as Riverdale executive producer and CEO of Archie Comics, Jon Goldwater, dismissed the idea (at least for now).

“They’re two separate entities for right now.” Goldwater said ahead of the Archie panel at PaleyFest.

Goldwater admits he “would love it if they could figure out a way to cross over,” and doesn’t rule out a mention of Sabrina and her pals popping up in a future episode of Riverdale: “Going forward? You never know. Maybe.”

Riverdale has recently been renewed for a third season and Greendale (Not that one #sixseasonsandamovie), which is Sabrina’s home town, has been referenced in Riverdale on a few occasions… so technically…

Sabrina was originally due to be shown on The CW but is now moved to Nexflix and been picked up for two seasons. Along with Shipka and Ross Lynch (as Harvey Kinkle) the series also stars Lucy Davis as Hilda Spellman, Miranda Otto as Zelda Spellman, Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina’s BFF Rosalind, Tati Gabrielle as her magical rival Prudence, Chance Perdomo as her pansexual cousin Ambrose, Bronson Pinchot as the villainous George Hawthorne and Michelle Gomez as Mary Wardell.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently tweet the below pic of Shipka and Lynch in character

As a child of the 90s I probably watched more Sabrina the Teenage Witch than I should have but I have high hopes in the new version as Shipka is a great actress who should be more than capable of carrying the series.
