FTN’s Video Game News #9

February 10th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Sony’s big announcement will be livestreamed (assuming the internet can cope), Ubisoft tell us that there won’t be another 4 year gap between Far Cry games and the Scott Pilgrim DLC I shouted about last week is axed again.
Busy wee week in the gaming world, a serious week with a lot of speculation and rumour, the anticipation over the Xbox 720 and PS4’s announcements is hitting its high point and people will soon be clawing at each other to gather information. I say all in good time, I just really want to know how much money I need to save in order to purchase one of these powerhouses.

Sony Event will be Livestreamed:

Is it the PlayStation 4 announcement or are Sony just trying to fake us out?
Well on February 20th we will find out and if you aren’t an esteemed member of the press invited to this event well Sony are allowing you to watch on in possible awe.
The massive event will be livestreamed and assuming the internet can cope we can all see what the big fuss is all about.
Ill be watching, will you?

Day Z standalone update:

Dean Hall the developer of Day Z has released the first footage of the Day Z standalone version in the form of a production diary/blog. It shows off some of the awesome stuff in the new game like the crazy spawning of objects behind and under things, the new clothing system and a new island.
I for one really hope this game comes to consoles as keeping the PC up to date is a pain, there really is a market for it and it would make a tonne of money.

Even if it is just on the Xbox Arcade and the PlayStation store, I know Dean wants that and I’m sure with this games blatant popularity it will surface.
Now all we need is cross platform servers and we are sorted.

See the footage here.

Scott Pilgrim DLC Gone:

My excitement was short lived, I wanted this game to have online multiplayer and have a new character but no… it’s not going to happen. Let’s just assume it never will. Ubisoft why are you treating Scott Pilgrim so badly?

Far Cry 4 will not be another 4 years away:

Just when I thought I was out Ubisoft pull me back in.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot spoke at an earnings call saying “Fans will certainly not have to wait four more years for the next Far Cry”.
It probably has nothing to do with the 4.5 million units shipped and the nice little pot of money it has made Ubisoft.

The next Far Cry on next gen consoles, it just sounds so good. What could they do with more graphics power? I suppose we won’t need to wait long to see.

New Call of Duty in 2013:

Black Ops 2 may only be a few months old but Activision has announced that there will be a new Call of Duty game this year. CFO Dennis Durkin said “The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation, and we expect the new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher.”

I don’t know about raising the bar higher but maybe they can sort horrid connection issues and maybe make some fundamental changes to not only the boring and repetitive campaigns but to the stale multiplayer that has stayed the same for many years.

It is a cash cow that Activision know they can take to the market so until the market packs up and leaves we will keep getting substandard games. Not that I’ll stop playing them.

If Call of Duty isn’t your thing why not try some of the games on http://www.jackpotcity.co.uk

Battlefield 3 End Game DLC Screenshots:

The first official screenshots have appeared for the upcoming DLC End Game has appeared. It shows those pesky soldiers on dirt bikes. I love you Battlefield, you give me tanks, jets and jeeps…. Now you give me bikes. Well it’s going to be some fun playing around on those, especially spamming it with C4 and firing it at a helicopter.

Sim City Beta returns:

Are you a fan of playing God? Building up a city just to smash it down when you get bored?

Well fans of Sim City will be happy to see the beta return on February 16th. All you need to do is register at their official site.
If you have already registered there is no need to do so again, you will still be in the running to get another beta code.

New Xbox to have better speech recognition:

The new Xbox is rumoured to have speech recognition software similar to Siri, the device will be able to detect natural speech patterns like Apple’s Siri technology.
Apparently you might even be able to turn on the Xbox by a simple spoken word. With the other rumours that a Kinect device will also ship with the new Xbox I can see this being something easily implemented.

Now just to get it to understand my dulcet Scottish tones (something which Siri is yet to master)

And that’s the rundown of this week’s most interesting gaming news.
