Benedict Cumberbatch Selected to be Doctor Strange?

October 27th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

After months of speculation and deals falling through, Deadline reports that Benedict Cumberbatch is Marvel’s choice to be Doctor Strange. Contract negotiations are now beginning.

After Joaquin Phoenix dropped out of the running, many wondered who would take the role of the Sorcerer Supreme. There were rumors of Ewan McGregor, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, and others. But it appears Marvel has it’s guy in the mega-popular star, who’s roles as Sherlock, Khan, and Smaug have skyrocketed him in popularity over the last few years.

Doctor Strange was originally set for a 2016 release, or so rumors went. But problems with the script, and finding the title actor, have put that date in question. Reports are also saying that Cumberbatch being Doctor Strange will rely on whether Marvel will give the actor time to film the fourth season of Sherlock.

To be clear, he is not confirmed as of yet. But things are looking promising…
