With Age of Ultron officially opening soon (already has in the UK), Marvel are already talking up further projects.
Firstly, they’ve confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch will be joining the increasingly epic-sized cast of Captain America: Civil War, which is currently shooting. Olsen has confirmed her role in the movie and is set to shoot her scenes in Atlanta in late April/early May.
The presence of at least one more female lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has again raised the question: what about a solo Black Widow movie? Scarlett Johansson has confirmed that she’s (again) raised the issue with Kevin Feige: “I mean, of course we’ve had that conversation before, and I think Kevin would also like to see a standalone film. I think I can speak for him and say that. That’s all, really. Right now I think this character is used well in this part of the universe, but I think that Kevin — I mean, we’ve talked about it and we both share similar vision for what could be a standalone series.”
So in short: maybe, but not yet. Johansson has also let slip a few details about Civil War, saying that “as the scope of these movies is larger and larger and the danger kind of looms larger and larger, I don’t want to say that the film has a darker tone, but the film has a darker tone and I think it’s maturing along with the fans“.
Seriously, Marvel need to pull their finger out on Black Widow. Two hours of Scarlett Johansson in a leather catsuit, preferably with a similarly-attired Christina Hendricks as her mentor in flashbacks — what’s not to love?
I’ll get me coat…
