Everyone brace yourselves! Dwayne Johnson is back and he’s about to make the earth move… again! New Line, the studio that brought us San Andreas, is backing a second film after its success in 2015.
The original, which managed to (somehow) gross over $473 million, saw Johnson face off against earthquakes and tidal waves in the ridiculous action flick, write our buddies over at Squareeyed.
Neil Widener and Gavin James are the duo hired to pen the sequel. The pair are fairly new to the cinematic world but have enjoyed plenty of success over the last year after selling Verona to Sony as well as setting up the drama based on a true story, Battle for Alcatraz.
There’s not too much change behind the scenes of the film either with producer Beau Flynn and director Brad Peyton returning.
As far as the plot goes, the filmmakers are remaining fairly tight-lipped. What we can tell you though, is that the sequel will see the plot go global as it focuses on the Pacific Ring of Fire. This area is believed to be home to about 90 percent of earthquakes that occur worldwide as a result of the fault lines and number of volcanoes present.
We recently reported on The Rock’s ridiculously busy shooting schedule for 2016 which sees him hitting the gym at 4am every morning (rather him than us)! What we’re really wondering, is how on earth he intends to fit even more filming into his schedule that includes season 2 of Ballers, Baywatch, Fast and Furious 8 and Rampage.
If there’s anyone that can scare extra hours into the day to get stuff done, it’s definitely The Rock!
