Keanu Reeves’s snappily-dressed hitman John Wick is headed back into cinemas next February, in a follow-up to the original 2014 sleeper hit action movie.

So far, details of the production have been kept pretty much under wraps, inevitably fuelling speculation. Rumour has it that Wick will be heading to Europe, but director Chad Stahelski had been keeping very tight-lipped on all details about John Wick: Chapter Two.

Until, over the weekend, the production team released a press statement that included a brief synopsis:

Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

So, Reeves, guns, explosions. You know it makes sense! It’s a formula the Wachowskis perfected with The Matrix, then royally screwed up with The Matrix Reloaded and especially The Matrix Revelations. Here’s hoping Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad stick to what works here.

John Wick: Chapter Two is scheduled for release on 17 February 2017.

The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
