“I’ll be in it,” Neve Campbell talks Scream 8

Our favourite Scream queen and final girl, Sidney Prescott, is coming back to fight Ghostface at least once more!

Star Neve Campbell has just confirmed that the eighth entry in the series is currently being written and she is returning once more.

In a new interview, Campbell says: “There are conversations of Scream 8 at the moment… there’s a first draft.

“I’m giving notes… and that’s where we’re at.”

Then, in a later interview, she adds: “Scream 8, that’s in the pipeline.”

Campbell giving notes on the character she’s played for 30 years makes a lot of sense.

When asked if she can reveal anything about the highly anticipated horror/thriller, she replies: “About Scream 8? No. You know I could never tell you anything about Scream 8.” She then adds: “I’ll be in it.”

Despite all its flaws, Scream VII set Sidney on a fun new path and with a whole new set of risks for future Ghostface attacks: she now has a husband and kids, with the always great Isabel May playing her oldest daughter (and most likely to continue the legacy), Tatum, so Sidney returning and finding herself still in the midst of murderers out to get her makes perfect sense still.

This isn’t the first time Campbell has hinted at a return to the series; when asked in February about a possible return for the eighth movie, she made it clear she couldn’t say anything because it might ruin the ending of the then-unreleased Scream VII. Knowing what we now know, this likely implied that she was planning on returning,

I’ve seen a lot of discourse over Campbell’s return – I know, you’re shocked – with some saying it’s time the franchise got new blood and went in a new direction, but we have to remember that Sidney is the whole reason Ghostface exists; it’s her mother’s murder that set into action all the events of the series and now, with May in the picture, we have legacy characters and new faces that could actually continue the series and give it a whole new appearance while still being Scream.

That said, I love Campbell and Sidney and as far as I’m concerned, she IS Scream and without her, well, then it’s the Scream TV series and we all know how that went.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
