So with all the news Defenders stuff released over the weekend, we’re all once again thinking… will the Defenders and Avengers meet?
Surely the Infinity War movies would be the perfect place to bring it all back together?
Well Marvel’s TV head Jeph Loeb has said that it’s still not likely but it’s not impossible: “I don’t know that you’d be asking this question if we were a medical show or a law show or a cop show. I think the other part that separates us from, let’s just say, our distinguished competition is that we take place in a very real, grounded world. We’ve always said that there is a fifth Defender, and that is New York.”
Oh come on Jeph, we all know this isn’t a crossover between medical dramas, this is a crossover in a universe you all insist is connected and that next year will see Thanos crash down to earth to bring about certain doom, it’s not exactly out of the blue to think that surely the TV characters and movie characters should come together to prevent the end of the world?
“You’re trying to trap me into saying, ‘Hashtag, it’s all connected,’” Loeb cheekily said. “If the story warrants it, we will obviously do our best to have folks cross into each other’s story lines.”
Before adding: “We certainly communicate with each other in terms of what we’re doing and what we have planned and the characters that we’re using and where it’s all going,”
We’re tired saying this but we really hope the Infinity War story will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher stepping up to the superhero plate alongside Capt, Iron Man and the rest.
This is the chance, Loeb, to give the fans what they REALLY want.
In addition to this, Loeb also had a cryptic comment about one of Marvel’ other TV shows, Agent Carter.
As far as we all know, Carter was cancelled at the end of it second season which was a little unfair as the show seemed to find its feet (and we already miss Hayley Atwell on our screens), however Loeb seemed to offer a glimmer of light that we may see Peggy back on our screens someday: “Unlike the movie studio where they can say, ‘In 2019 we’re making Captain Marvel,’ the television division doesn’t have that ability. We are, at the end of the day, beholden to the network that we’re on. So for all of you Agent Carter fans out there, we didn’t cancel the show.”
Or perhaps he’s just saying that its finished but it wasn’t their decision.
Thoughts?
