Details revealed about the first What We Do In The Shadows spin-off TV series

We’ve known for a while that Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, creators of What We Do In The Shadows, were planning a sequel movie called We’re Wolves (get it?) and now we have details on the spin-off TV show that, while not a direct sequel, will expand on the universe of the movies.

Called Wellington Paranormal, Director Clement, talking to Stuff, revealed it will follow Wellington Police who investigate ghosts, werewolves and zombies: “It’s surprising how many demonic possessions there are. There was a very tense situation at the Bucket Fountain – I can tell you it involved a possible Gateway from Hell. We’re very concerned about this kind of stuff,” joked Clement.

The show will follow What We Do in the Shadows’ police unit members Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary, as they hunt out ghosts, werewolves and demonic possessions. They were the cops that were hypnotised to not see the blood or dead bodies in the vampires’ home.

Wellington Paranormal will feature several cameos from What We Do In The Shadows.  Producer Paul Yates said the show will poke fun at the police documentary shows: “It’s like Police Ten7 meets The X-Files,” he said.

Interestingly, it also transpired that this is not the only spinoff series in the works as a US one is also in the works although it will be different: “The American one is about vampires in America. Our one is about cops.”

With shows like Ash Vs Evil Dead and Stan Against Evil, it seems that comedy horror is big business… and that’s just fine by us.

The first season will be six 30-min episodes and will air on TVNZ 2 in mid-2018.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
