So we’ve known for a while that there was a high likelihood that a Black Widow movie was likely to be coming to the MCU soon.
And now we have a director which, we reckon, means it’s coming soon.
Cate Shortland, the Australian filmmaker best known for the Nazi drama Lore, has signed on the dotted line.
This means that Marvel were true to their word and found a female director for the gig which was a priority for them.
The reported shortlist was Amma Asante (Belle, A United Kingdom) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) along with Melanie Laurent (Galveston) and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) were also in the next-to-final mix.
Word is that Scarlett Johansson herself was pushing for Shortland to get the gig, being a fan of Lore.
Interestingly: Johansson’s Black Widow is reportedly set before the events of the first Avengers movie and sees the actress reprise the role of the Russian spy turned superheroine.
So, who’s excited? Let us know your thoughts…
