Before we go any further, we know the answer is probably not, but did Shazam! director David F Sandberg just tease the villain of Shazam! 2?
On twitter a fan asked if the toys seen in the trailer (check this out and here’s the trailer) were licensed in the DC Cinematic Universe ie did Batman, Superman and others give the rights to their likenesses (hey, fans under these things) and Sandberg replied: “In the movie those toy designers all get fired for taking creative license. It’s a big plot point that sets up the villain of Shazam 2” (Full tweet below).
Now, we have no doubt he’s just messing around.
But.
What if he’s hinting at Toyman as a villain in the next movie (if it happens)?
In the comics Toyman has been several different alter egos but is most commonly Winslow Schott, a villainous toymaker who creates – you guessed it – toys that he uses for all sorts of criminal endeavours.
And remember the line in Justice League when Alfred said to Bruce: “One misses the days when one’s biggest concern was exploding wind-up penguins”? Well, what if that line wasn’t just a reference to, em, Penguin but what if Toyman was out there helping him create them?
Anyway, we’re getting carried away here… it was likely nothing at all. But we can wonder, can’t we? It’s what we Nerds do, after all.
Oh, and for record, Toyman has a heroic Japanese teen counterpart called Hiro Okamura… now tell me these aren’t characters you’d love to see in the DC universe?
Just a thought… let us know your thoughts
