Aaaaaaand now there’s no Joker in Birds of Prey movie… and never was

Bit of conflicting news tonight (not really a shock) as we hear that Joker, more specifically Jared Leto’s Joker, was left out of the Birds of Prey movie, despite if focusing on Harley Quinn and her break up with him.

Now, this is contrary to image we saw from the movie’s filming (here) which seemed to show an actor (not Leto) playing Joker in what seems to be a scene where he throws Harley out of their nice suburban home.

However, now star Margot Robbie has said Joker was never going to be in the movie: “It was either going to be a complete Harley and Joker story or Joker has got to be out of the picture,” Robbie says.

“From the very beginning it was a conscious choice of they have to be broken up at this stage,” Robbie said. “I have a whole backstory in my head [of] what’s happened between what you saw at the end of Suicide Squad and what you see at the beginning of Birds of Prey.”

If she is telling the truth, then there’ll be no Joker in this outing, which I actually am glad about… Leto’s Joker has been cruelly maligned by DC/Warners and he deserves a chance to shine properly. It’s just a question now of if we’ll ever really see it happen at this stage.

You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer.
