It looks like James Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie is starting to gather the team.
Captain Boomerang star Jai Courtney has confirmed that he will be returning to the role in the sequel which is currently set to film this September.
“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time. There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”
We already know that Margot Robbie will be returning as Harley Quinn (here) and rumour has it Viola Davis will return as Amanda Waller and while Idris Elba is replacing Will Smith as Deadshot, the movie is firmly a sequel.
One other cast member, Joel Kinnanan – who played Rick Flagg – was asked if he was returning and he had this to say: “I can’t confirm or deny it just yet… It’s all sort of in the works and we’ll see.”
I don’t know about you, but to us that sounds like he’s in talks.
Adding to this, we all know the Birds of Prey movie is currently filming and Margot Robbie’s Harley is a large part of that story – although at Cinema Con it was revealed that Harley would not be a member of the Birds of Prey but will play a big role in the movie.
But you can’t have Harley without Joker right?
Well, Jaret Leto – who played Joker in Suicide Squad – posted this on social media (continues after image):
Naturally, this got fan wondering if perhaps there was Joker news coming.
Then a few hours later, this image leaked from the Birds of Prey set:
Now, we can’t confirm that’s Leto – it’s probably not as he is currently filming Morbius for Sony – but that’s without question his Joker. We’re guessing he’s in a flashback as he seems to be throwing Harley out from their suburban (love it!) home, but whatever the story, his take on the Clown Prince of Crime is definitely alive and well.
Also from Cinema Con we’re hearing the Birds of Prey movie looks dark, gritty and real world.Hopefully this means that while DC movies seem to be heading in a more light-hearted direction with Aquaman and Shazam! but it seems that, hopefully, this doesn’t mean we’ll have a light-hearted Batman when Reeves takes on the mantle.
Producer Peter Safran has made it clear that tonally, each hero will get the movie he or she need:
ah, it’s so nice to hear exactly what you’ve been constantly saying and speculating, straight from the horse’s mouth pic.twitter.com/KTaZeXnFoJ

Oh, and the latest news from Cinema Con last night from Fandango confirms that, despite word to the contrary, Suicide Squad is NOT a reboot and is a sequel… can we put these rumours to bed now?
Warner Brothers refers to James Gunn’s Suicide Squad as Suicide Squad 2 so that reboot talk looks to be moot. #CinemaCon
