It looks like eagle-eyed viewers might be well rewarded when Venom: Let there be Carnage is released in cinemas this September.
In a recent commentary on the trailer for the movie which arrived a few weeks ago (here), director Andy Serkis discussed how the movie will be related to the MCU (here), however, he also teased a hint/nod to the wider Sony Marvel universe that’s set for the coming years and which we likely will have a better feel for after the release of Spider-man: No Way Home this Christmas (here) and will hopefully know how exactly this all fits into one big landscape.
Anyway, will Serkis makes it clear that, while Venom and Spider-man are related to each other in the bigger picture, he stressed that the Venom sequel would be its own thing… but it will have connections to the wider Sonyverse.
In the trailer, we see The Ravencroft institute – sort of the Marvel equivalent of Arkham Asylum, where many of the most evil and devious of the Marvel villains reside – and at this point, Serkis remarks: “This lovely little abode is, of course, well-known to fans.
“I’m not going to say too much about it, but of course, it houses some of the world’s greatest supervillains. It’s a secret place not even Detective Mulligan and [the San Francisco Police Department] know about. We get another slightly different entry point into this strange place which of course links up to other Marvel universe characters, particularly Spider-Man stories, of course.”
Now, we know that Morbius is coming (now pushed back to January 2022), the Kraven the Hunter movie is getting prepped for development, and that others are planned, so we’re wondering who or what we’ll see teased… but having nods to villains in cells in Ravencroft seems like a great way to when fans’ appetites.
What say you all? Is there anything you’d love to see teased in the movie?
