The Flash and Bumblebee’s Christina Hodson to write Batman: The Brave and the Bold

While Batman has already been (briefly) introduced in the new DCU, fans have been clamouring for more and it’s The Brave and the Bold, which is likely going to give him his big, real debut in the universe.

We have known for a couple of years now that IT and The Flash director Andy Muschietti is onboard to direct, and that still seems to be the case, providing he isn’t fully consumed by the world of Stephen King and IT: Welcome to Derry, and now we officially know who will be writing the Dark Knight’s DCU debut movie.

Christina Hodson, writer of The Flash, Birds of Prey and Bumblebee, is now confirmed as being the writer on the project, which will not only feature Batman but also Damien Wayne as Robin, the assassin son of Batman. This means that Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and Jason Todd, if they’re part of this DCU, have already been Robins over the years… makes you wonder how old Batman, when he’s cast, will be.

Batman and Gotham City make official DCU debut and we have loads of details and news

There’s no word on how far along the script is, but it still seems like a while before we see this movie going into production.

Gunn has previously said that he will not release a DCU Batman movie the same year as Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, and since it’s due in 2027 with filming kicking off on March 2nd, that means we’re at least two years out from The Brave and the Bold: “I’m dependent on when there’s an actionable script ready so there is no way of me guessing this. Also, frankly, we’re well into Batman 2, and I wouldn’t want to cloud the Batsphere until after that,” Gunn says when asked about when the movie will move ahead.

Hodson’s reveal as writer has been a big talking point for the internet (I know, you’re shocked) because of the failure of her previous Batman-related scripts with the DCEU’s Birds of Prey and The Flash both taking at the box office, but, look, I’ll be honest, I liked BoP a lot more than I expected to and there’s parts of The Flash – also directed by Muschietti -, especially the Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck Batman parts and, there’s no point in lying, the DCEU was in its death throws when both these movies came out, so I would argue that it wasn’t the script as much as the studio interference, the rewrites, the reshoots and more, that caused these movies to tank.

That said, her Batgirl movie is still lying in the Warner Bros vaults, never (as of now) to be released, and she also penned a Batman Beyond movie that was cancelled due to The Flash tanking, meaning we will never see Keaton as old man Batman.

And I will defend her Bumblebee script to the death, the movie finally gave us paper Gen 1 Transformers on the big screen.

Next up, she has a firefighter script sitting on Ron Howard’s desk, and she also wrote the final Fast and Furious movie, which has yet to begin production.

Personally, I am quietly optimistic about this news, but look, it’s still a few years away, and a lot can happen in that time.

Thoughts? I know you have them and i wanna hear ‘em all.
