Dexter Resurrections finds its New York Ripper

Some cool news for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 today, as a new face is revealed, as well as the return of a familiar one from last year.

One of the threads running through the first season of Dexter: Resurrection was the identity of the New York Ripper, a killer who is off-screen but mentioned several times throughout, leading to lots of fan speculation about who the Ripper might be.

Well, in a surprising move, the Ripper’s identity – and casting – has been revealed.

Tidbit:

James Remar and Jack Alcott are both expected to return as Harry and Harrison Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. It’s also looking like Kadia Saraf and Eric Stonestreet will be back as Detective Claudette Wallace and AI/Rapunzel respectively.

Brian Cox (79) will be in the new season as the killer who terrified New York decades earlier – he will be the oldest killer Dexter has faced so far.

The announcement has frustrated many fans because it was expected that the mystery of who the Ripper really is would continue into the new season, but it’s not much of a mystery if we know who he is. However, director and exec producer Marcos Siega addressed the reveal, saying that once Cox appeared on set, his involvement would have leaked immediately, so they wanted to get out ahead of it and he promised there’s still “plenty of surprises coming in the episodes”.

This reminds me of the announcement of Matthew Lillard in the recent Scream 7 due to fears of his return leaking.

This is what it is to live in a world where it’s impossible to keep anything a secret, I guess.

It’s also been officially revealed that Uma Thurman’s Charley will also return after her debut last season and seeming end to her story. It’s interesting to point out that Charley is the only character in the series who can reveal just who Dexter Morgan (Michael C Hall) really is…

Anyways, thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
