The drip, drip of news and information on the now-filming The Batman Part II is slowly becoming more of a constant stream, mostly thanks to co-writer/director Matt Reeves.
Earlier in the month, Reeves confirmed that The Batman Part II will, as has been long-rumoured, see Gotham City covered in snow. The director replied “indeed it is” to a fan post on X that said: “My biggest f@£king bream is to see in live-action is a bloody Batman in snow. I hope this means it’s happening.”
This comment itself was in response to Reeves’ putting a heart emoji on a picture of Batman covered in snow, left.
It’s funny to see so many replies online that show how many of these fans have never seen Batman Returns, which has a bloody Batman in snow quite a bit.
It’s also interesting to see how many people are saying this means the oft-rumoured Mr Freeze will be part of the story; while this may be true, snow doesn’t mean Mr Freeze, heck, in Batman Returns, the villains were Penguin and Catwoman and, on top of that, I can’t help but feel Mr Freeze is too fantastic a villain for this version of Batman.
Tidbit:
Reeves posted images online of camera tests on the upcoming sequel – it looks like the Batmobile will be busy on the streets of Gotham again this time around:
X user ImPatrickT posted a fascinating breakdown of what exactly these images mean and how they may related to The Batman Part II: WATCH HERE
On top of this, Reeves has been revealing the cast via a range of short clips on his social media.
So far, we know that the cast will consist of Robert Pattinson as Batman, Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent (unvonfirmed), Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent (unconfirmed), Charles Dance as Christopher Dent (unconfirmed), Sebastian Koch (TBA), Brian Tyree Henry (TBA), Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez.

On top of this, as a refresher for the whole story so far, DC has released an official recap of The Batman as well as the excellent spinoff, The Penguin, below, to get you all set for the upcoming sequel.
On top of this, I would strongly recommend The Riddler graphic novel, which sets the scene for the villain before we meet him in The Batman, written by actor Paul Dano, it really makes me wish there were more comics set in this universe. There’s also a short teen novel called Before The Batman, which isn’t essential but gives a nice look at the first days of this Dark Knight.
According to scooper Daniel RPK, DC movie boss James Gunn is keen to get The Batman Part II and then Part III out of the way so he can start bringing Batman into the DCU with The Brave and the Bold. RPK said: “I am told Brave and the Bold is not coming for years. Gunn is pushing to get The Batman 3 out faster, he wants that trilogy over, he wants to move on. Doesn’t want two Batmans.”
This makes sense, but it is a pity because I am very excited to see Batman in the new DCU, which will clearly lean into the more outlandish characters and stories, whereas Reeves’ Batman is more grounded.
Anyways, that’s where we are, The Batman Part II is currently filming and the cast (so far), full of new and old faces, is not one to be sniffed at.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
The Batman Part II is currently set to clean up Gotham from October 1st, 2027.
