While not directly tied to the Ghostbusters franchise itself, one of its most recognisable creative voices, Dan Aykroyd, is preparing to release his debut novel later this year, writes Jason over at Ghostbusters News.
Titled Soulhider, the upcoming release is described as a supernatural sci-fi adventure infused with humor, suspense, and interdimensional intrigue, drawing on Aykroyd’s well-known fascination with the paranormal and the unexplained.
The story centers around Doug Beeston, a seemingly ordinary insurance adjustor living a quiet life in central New York State with his wife and children. However, Doug’s routine existence is turned upside down after he’s unexpectedly recruited by alien lifeforms and tasked with an unusual assignment: hiding harvested human souls in locations across Earth while using his skills as a risk assessor to ensure they remain protected.
What initially appears to be a lucrative and important responsibility soon spirals into something far more dangerous, as Doug discovers he’s become an unwitting pawn in a silent conflict between multiple alien species, each maneuvering behind the scenes in an ongoing interdimensional rivalry. As the truth behind his mission slowly unfolds, Doug begins to realise that the fate of Earth itself may be hanging in the balance.

Described as blending Aykroyd’s signature comedic sensibilities with cosmic-scale stakes, Soulhider appears poised to explore many of the same supernatural and otherworldly concepts that have long fueled the actor and writer’s interests outside of Ghostbusters.
While fans primarily know Aykroyd as the co-creator of the franchise and the man behind Dr. Raymond Stantz, his enthusiasm for UFOs, spirits, and unexplained phenomena has remained a recurring part of his public persona for decades, making this latest venture feel like a natural extension of those passions.
That interest also runs deep within the Aykroyd family, with Dan previously writing the foreword to his father Peter Aykroyd’s book, A History of Ghosts: The True Story of Séances, Mediums, Ghosts, and Ghostbusters. Released in 2009, the nonfiction title explored the family’s real-life connections to spiritualism and paranormal investigation, topics that would later help inspire elements of Ghostbusters lore.
Soulhider is expected to ship on October 27th.
